Vietnamese delegation visits ITUN

Focus of the delegation visit was the project completion and the discussion on a developed combined process scheme and its implementation in pilot scale as final outcome of the German project part.

Within the German-Vietnamese cooperation project “BioMatUse”, the value-added material usage of agricultural by-products from rice and sugar cane processing has been in the scope for the last 3.5 years. In this framework a delegation of Vietnamese partners from academia (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Hanoi University of Technology and Science) and industry (Lam Son Sugar Cane Company LASUCO) lead by Mr. Le Van Tam – Chairman of LASUCO – visited for the fourth time Germany from 24.07. until 02.08. Focus of the delegation visit was the project completion and the discussion on a developed combined process scheme and its implementation in pilot scale as final outcome of the German project part. According to this scheme, rice husks, rice straw and bagasse may be processed to erosion control blankets, soil improvers and/ or formed adsorbent materials, whereas resulting side streams e.g. during biomass classifying or comminution may be integrated further to the different products.

One part of the delegation participated additionally in a training course held at the ITUN laboratories to learn in detail how the different products may be produced from rice husks, rice straw and bagasse. Another objective of the training was the characterization of the raw materials and the products within the process chain.

The second part of the delegation including Mr. Le Van Tam visited the economic project partners in Germany (Roess Nature Group and Gebr. Jehmlich GmbH) and other relevant companies, which process biomass or produce machinery for biomass processing, in order to consider the implementation of a pilot plant in Vietnam.
