Geometrically controllable extruder nozzle for additive manufacturing of parts with variable wall thicknesses

vaWaDü ProjektlogoThe projects goal is to develop a geometrically controllable extruder nozzle for additive manufacturing of parts with variable wall thicknesses. It originates by the ZIM network “FABULOS 3D” and connects partners from industry and science.

The controllable nozzle should increase potential and performance of the FFF process by applying more material in shorter building durations. With this new technology manufacturers should be able to print big parts with complex shapes in a cheaper process. The use of the nozzle is particularly suitable for parts with variable wall thicknesses, as the path-dependent material extrusion can show its advantages here.

The technical implementation of the resulting technology requires the development of a new CAM planning strategy, which is also being co-developed by the partners in this collaborative project and realized for the implementation of the new nozzle in an FFF system.
