University intensifies cooperation with Dnipro University of Technology

Rector Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht signing the cooperation agreement.
On June 16, Rector Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht and Prof. Oleksandr Azyukovskyi, Rector of Dnipro University of Technology (DUT), sealed their joint cooperation with a cooperation agreement - especially in the fields of mining, ecology/biosciences, geodesy as well as engineering.

"DUT has been and continues to be a reliable partner. The signed cooperation agreement is a confirmation of our close relationship and the joint, successful commitment to student education and research", explains Rector Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht.

In addition to ecology and (environmental) microbiology, geology and mining, researchers and teachers in the fields of resource and environmental management from both universities are actively involved and supervise students during their study and research stays at the respective host university.

The cooperation with DUT has existed for 17 years. Since then, there have been a variety of joint activities and projects - including joint degree programs in the study programs "Advanced Minerals Resource Development" and "International Master of Science in Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Resources" as well as a joint Erasmus + program partnership. TU Bergakademie Freiberg and the DUT also work closely together scientifically. For example, in the two research projects "Bio-Mining" and "Eco-Mining", teaching modules have been developed for Bachelor and Master students in the courses of study in environmental sciences, mining and geology, and a successful double doctoral program has been established with jointly supervised doctorates on the topic of "Ecomining" (environmentally friendly mining and ecological rehabilitation of post-mining landscapes) - now even on a virtual basis.

The DUT is one of the oldest partners of TU Bergakademie Freiberg and is one of the internationally leading universities in the mining sector. Shortly after the founding of the Dnepropetrovsk Mining University in 1899, the first scientists were sent to Freiberg for training. DUT is also one of the five universities that founded the "International University of Resources" in Freiberg in 2007 as a network for resource research and is an active member of the World Forum of Universities of Resources on Sustainability (WFURS).
