Summer semester again largely in presence and with additional corona protection measures

In the summer semester, universities will again largely carry out teaching face to face and make decisions about hygiene measures, such as, if appropriate, masks should be compulsory in certain areas and coronavirus tests should be offered for certain work (e.g. in laboratories).

However, since the requirements at the individual universities vary greatly, the arrangements for measures remain within the decision-making area of the respective university. The legal basis for this is both the applicable occupational health and safety rules and the domiciliary right of the rectorates. The Ministry of Science, the State Rectors' Conference (LRK) and the Professional Academy of Saxony (BA Sachsen) agreed on this at the beginning of April.

"Universities such as the Palucca University of Dance, those with few, highly qualified students and a school operation, the art and music colleges all have different requirements for protective measures against infections than a broad-based full university with more than 30 thousand students or a TU with many laboratories and technical rooms. That is why we continue to believe that specific local knowledge and the measures derived from it are better than central guidelines. The LRK and the Ministry of Science continue to recommend that FFP2- masks be regarded as an effective protective measure during classroom teaching" says Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht, Chairman of the State Rectors' Conference.

In addition, universities in Saxony continue to advocate offering vaccination services as comprehensively and as low-threshold as possible in order to further increase the vaccination rate and to keep it at a high level among students and academic staff. Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow explains: "The vaccination rate among students and academic staff at the universities in Saxony is significantly better than in the general population, which is evident from the fact that only a manageable number of students have been tested in the test centres at the universities after the introduction of the 3G rule for attending on-site events at the universities. Surveys among students in autumn 2021 also showed that young people took the vaccination offer very seriously and made use of it. According to the Ministry of Science, the LRK and the BA Saxony, the tendency can be observed that a good vaccination status does not completely protect against an infection, but can usually prevent a severe course of the disease."

The summer semester at TU Bergakademie Freiberg

The lecture program of the summer semester at TU Bergakademie Freiberg will also begin on 4th April 2022 again predominantly as face-to-face teaching with the exception of courses in the first two semesters in international master's programmes. These are carried out in the online or hybrid format for international students during the summer semester. For the face-to-face events in the summer semester, the FFP2-mask obligation continues to apply as a protective measure. Vaccination and testing checks as well as contact tracking with Pass4All are no longer in force. It is recommended to use the Corona warning app.
