It is the sporting highlight of the year: the Unisport Olympiad. In seven university championships and the big team challenge, numerous athletes from the TU Freiberg competed against each other. A colorful supporting program rounded off the event for all spectators.

For a week, members of the university fought for the coveted titles of the university championships. In addition to the classic team sports of soccer, volleyball and hockey, individual athletes in climbing, badminton and table tennis were also required. The open chess Olympiad organised by the University Sports Centre in cooperation with the Chess University Group provided a fascinating intellectual sport.

This was also evident at the highlight of the competition days, the major Unisport team challenge on Tuesday. The athletes gather for the start of the team challenge.

Nearly 200 sports enthusiasts, spread over 31 registered teams, gathered on the grounds of the university sports centre. In a 12-station circuit, they went through 7 stations and earned points diligently. The winner of the event was Captain Zachary Harrison's "international combo" W20". It got cramped behind that. In the direct jump-off with push-ups, the team "STARLIGHT EXZESS" was able to secure second place in front of the team "DIE GEOTUBBIES".

In addition to exciting competitions, the guests were offered even more. Performances by the cheerleaders of the Silverines Freiberg and music by DJ Fabian ensured a coherent supporting programme. Barbecue master Michael Prinz conjured up healthy barbecue snacks for all visitors and university brewer Dr. Ronny Schimpke sponsored a whole 50 litre barrel of his delicious "Reicher Zecher" Pale Ale. The perfect refreshment after exercise.

"You can see that people want to play sports," sums up co-organiser Jochen Lessau. "The high number of participants and the great atmosphere show how well the Unisportolympiade is accepted at the TU Freiberg. We would like to thank our many instructors at the USZ, the StuRa team and our partners from the Central Saxony Regional Sports Association and the Gahlenz Golf Club, without whom this event would not have been possible. Congratulations and thanks also go to all participants for the great competition days."

With its wide range of courses, the University Sports Centre offers students the opportunity to engage in sporting activities and make new contacts outside of their studies. This enriches the university life away from the courses.
