Children's University: Online Science Show for kids on June 19

What can stones and soils tell us about the history of our region? How can one make music using a shoe string? Children aged 4 to 12 will get answers to those questions at the Children's University of TU Bergakademie Freiberg which will be streamed on June 19 at

Mascot TU-Lino welcomes interested girls and boys at 10 a.m. to the two children's lectures. Rolf Mögel, initiator and founding member of the Geopark Sachsens Mitte and chairman of the Förderverein Geologie im Tharandter Wald g.e.V., will kick off the virtual event. He will provide exciting insights into the geological diversity of the region in the middle of Saxony and its geological history. The program "Spannendes aus dem Geopark (in German)" is suitable for all family members.

From 10.50 o'clock Jo Hecker continues with an exciting science show. With his radio broadcast «Heckers Hexenküche» at WDR he brings the fascination of science to families homes. On June 19 he presents "many questions and a show packed with answers" and explaines, how bats can "see with their ears" or how you can make music with a shoelace (in German).

Participating children can paint a picture or take a photo or video on the topics of the online children's lectures and win a voucher for the local book shop. Participation in the online lectures on 19.06.2021 is possible without prior registration in the Livestream. On the website of the Children's University, interested parties will also always find a new experiment at the beginning of each month, which children and their parents can carry out at home with simple tools.
