Welcome Note of the Rectorial Board
Dear Sir or Madam,
in 1765 the TU Bergakademie Freiberg was founded and today it is the oldest mining university in the world.
In 2015 its 250th foundation anniversary will take place. The festival period began already in 2013 with the 300th jubilee of the book "Sylvicultura Oeconomica" in which the chief mining administrator, Hans Carl von Carlowitz, has written down the principle of sustainability for the first time.
On the occasion of the 250-year-old foundation anniversary we look back with numerous events at the last 250 years and celebrate discoveries, researchers and events which have stamped the TU Bergakademie Freiberg – a living history.
Besides the anniversary is a wonderful possibility to arouse enthusiasm for our outlasting keywords sustainable, shining, new.
The ceremony on the occasion of the 250-year-old existence of the Bergakademie Freiberg will take place exactly on the day on which 250 years ago, on the 21st of November 1765, the decree of the foundation was signed.
We are glad to welcome numerous national and international guests and friends from science, economy, politics and society in Freiberg to celebrate our anniversary.
As the german university of resources we offer a unique spectrum of courses of studies which covers the whole value creation chain from the exploration of the raw materials up to the recycling. We train experts who speed up the international resource transition. Together with our partners we work on the elements of a long-lasting material economy and energy industry for the future.
We would like to invite you to accompany us during the festival period. It would be a pleasure for us to welcome you in Freiberg.
Yours sincerely and ‘Glückauf‘*
The Rectorial Board of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg
