The research project B1 investigates the impact of inner interfaces and microstructure defects in TRIP steel matrix composites on the energy absorption and the capabilities of these features for the enhancement of energy absorption. Special attention will be paid to the interfaces between the TRIP steel and the ZrO2 ceramics, to the interfaces between the individual phases that are formed during the martensitic transformation in the respective material and to the microstructure defects, e.g. stacking faults and dislocation networks. The approach proposed to answer these questions combines microstructure analytics (XRD, TEM, and HRTEM) with first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. |
