I welcome you on the web pages of the Chair for Numerical Thermo-Fluid Dynamics.

    Welcome at the chair NTFD

The research focus of the professorship numerical thermo fluid dynamics is the numerical simulation of high-temperature conversion processes using sophisticated models combined with 3D CFD. The group is responsible for the integrated process simulation and virtualisation within the framework of the Virtuhcon centre (www.virtuhcon.de). The integration in the department of Energy Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering (IEC) as well as the close collaboration with 7 additional departments (INEMET, IEST, IFI, IMFD, INMO, IWTT, IWW) at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg provides an excellent environment and availability of experimental data for model validation.

The new models are used in Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulations of gasification and combustion processes.

    The research focus is on:

    • Modeling and simulation of turbulent flows with chemical reactions under partial oxidation conditions
    • Fluid flow and combustion in internal combustion engines
    • Turbulent flow laden with particles
    • Multi-scale models for gasification processes
    • Integrated process virtualisation for applications in chemical engineering, metallurgy and engine combustion
    • Turbulent Combustion
    • Flamelet modelling of reactive flows

    NTFD joined COST Action CM0901
Since 24.04.2013, the chair NTFD is a member of the COST Action CM0901: Detailed chemical kinetic models for cleaner combustion. The aim of this European research cooperation is the development and implementation of improved chemical combustion models.
The overall project is divided into 5 working groups, whereas the NTFD will participate in working group 3: "PAHs and Soot".
