Honorary professorship of the Lomonosov University

The Vice Chancellor of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Prof. Bernd Meyer, was awarded the title of an honorary professor of the Lomonosov Moscow State University on 26 January. “I am pleased that I have received this high honour in place of the supporters of the German-Russian relations in science”, Vice Chancellor Prof. Bernd Meyer gladly states. He received the honour also for the “intense support of the efforts for the conservation of the memory of Michail W. Lomonosov and the further development of the cooperation with the Moscow Lomonosov University”. Vice Chancellor of the Moscow Lomonosov University, handed over the certificate and the medal in the context of the ceremonies for the 260th anniversary of the Moscow Lomonosov University in the senate hall in front of more than 2,500 visitors. 

Only in the beginning of 2014 the TU Bergakademie Freiberg opened up the Lomonosov House, being the first international house of study in Freiberg. A joint German-Russian research project in the field of the energy storage technologies, which is coordinated by the Institute of Experimental Physics of the TU Freiberg as part of the Ioffe Röntgen Institute and was started in October 2014 is another expression of the close cooperation. The project is financed by the governmental research departments of both countries, each time with EUR one million for three years. 

The TU Bergakademie Freiberg is a co-initiator of the German-Russian Commodity Forum (“Deutsch-Russisches Rohstoff-Forum“), which was launched in 2006 jointly with the St. Petersburg Mining University as a dialog platform to strengthen the commodity relationship between both countries and will meet this year in July in St. Petersburg. Since 2007 also the International University of Resources (IUR) offers their services, with their members TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the Dnepropetrovsk National Mining University, the Mining Institute St. Petersburg, the Leoben University of Mining and the AGH Krakau. 

The honorary professorship of the Lomonosov University is one of the highest academic awards in Russia, which once every year is given to a foreign personality on the occasion of the founding day.
