Financial support

International students can apply for scholarships from numerous organisations, such as the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), politically-affiliated foundations, religious institutions and business-related organisation. You should find out whether you are eligible for scholarships and financial aid from organisations in your home country, as well.

1. Scholarships of DAAD and other funding organisations

The DAAD offers an extensive scholarship program also for foreign students, academics and researchers.
Please note: Neither the DAAD nor the majority of funding institutions offer scholarships for beginning undergraduates.

With the DAAD Scholarship Database it is easy to search for scholarships online. The database not only includes scholarships offered by the DAAD, but other funding organisations as well.

Soon you will find here information about other funding organisations.

2. Grants administered by the International Centre

The TU Bergakademie Freiberg does not charge its students tuition. Because of this, the number of grants available to international students is limited. Most of the scholarships are funded by organisations such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Saxon Ministry of State for Arts and Sciences, and the Union of Friends and Patrons of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Additionally, several employers contribute funding to the International Centre (IUZ), for the allocation of which the IUZ remains responsible.

Application Deadlines

There are two application deadlines each year: February 15th and August 15th*. The application procedure consists of two parts: 1) online application and  2) submission of hardcopies of complete application documents to the IUZ, Prueferstr. 2 or in exceptional cases (if the applicant is out of Freiberg, e.g. because of an internship or exchange semester abroad) scanned and submitted by email to Manuela Junghans (manuela [dot] junghansatiuz [dot] tu-freiberg [dot] de).

* extended until August 25, 2017!

The payment period of the grants will be the following for the different application deadlines:

February: April-June (July)
August: September-November (December)

Who determines the recipients of a grant?

An advisory selection committee (IUZ-Beirat) from the university makes the decision regarding the distribution of funding. Applicants are neither entitled to nor guaranteed the receipt a grant.
