30.9.17 EIT RawMaterials – Regional Center Freiberg: First professional short course at the TUBAF
The first professional short course – organized within the EIT RawMaterials project “ECLC Professional School” – took place at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg on September 26-27, 2017. The participants were from well-known industry partners of the EIT RawMaterials, such as Boliden Mines Technology, STENA and ArcelorMittal Maizières Research SA.
The two-days-course “Comminution of Minerals” offered an overview of characterization of disperse systems, breakage fundamentals, equipment (crushers and mills) as well as crushing and grinding circuits. “It was definitely worth the long journey from northern Sweden. The course was a very informative and we would definitely recommend it”, the two attendees from Boliden Mines Technology said.
Prof. Dr. Urs Peuker, Director at the Regional Center Freiberg, highlights the importance of this short course: “The feedback of the attendees shows, much to our surprise, that there is a huge demand coming from the European industry on professional education which is focusing on technical and scientific aspects. This demand can be met with the competencies of the TUBAF. Thanks to the initial funding by the EIT RawMaterials and the SMWK, we are able to organize training courses professionally. It is our goal to develop a comprehensive professional training courses program, which can lead to part-time/ extra-occupational education university degrees in the future. This way, we will be able to include and manifest the lifelong learning aspect within the competencies of the TUBAF. Last, but not least, these professional training courses will help us in bringing our research findings into use, as well as finding new international research and development partners.”
